The Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers (UG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nitrogen Chemical of Zambia (NCZ). This initiative will enable our members and the public service to access fertilizer through affordable monthly payroll deductions. This will also help remove financial barriers that have prevented many workers from investing in agriculture.
For many of our members, farming is not merely a seasonal activity it is an important source of food, additional income, and long-term financial security.
During the event UG President Dr Muyaywa Kabisa mentioned that as a union we recognize that workers face many economic challenges beyond the workplace. Rising living costs, increasing household responsibilities and the need to build sustainable livelihoods that require innovative and practical interventions and this partnership is one such intervention.
He further said that UG is pleased that this partnership supports national priorities. Increased access to fertilizer contributes to higher agricultural productivity, improved nutrition and food security, rural economic development, and ultimately Zambia's broader development agenda.
This demonstrates that when institutions work together, we can achieve outcomes that benefit both individual citizens and the nation as a whole.
Meanwhile NCZ Chief Executive Officer Chanda Mongo added that this will empower the hardworking civil servants and drive Zambia’s agricultural prosperity. He mentioned that their mandate is to fuel national development and ensure absolute food security.
As a union we encourage workers to embrace this opportunity responsibly
