Posted: 2026-03-08 19:55:00

The Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers (UG) joined the rest of the world in commemorating International Women’s Day, held under the theme “Rights, Justice and Action for All Women and Girls.”
UG members from all provinces across the country celebrated the day in style, with women expressing great joy and pride in marking this important occasion. The celebrations were characterized by unity and solidarity, as male members of the union also actively participated in supporting and honoring the women.
The theme for this year calls for meaningful and tangible change. “Rights” emphasizes that women must fully enjoy workplace protections, including equal pay, maternity protection, and fair working conditions. “Justice” calls for decisive action against discrimination, harassment, and all forms of inequality faced by women in the workplace and society. “Action” stresses the importance of implementation, urging institutions and leaders to move beyond policy statements and ensure that commitments toward gender equality are translated into real and measurable outcomes.
Through this commemoration, the Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers reaffirms its commitment to advocating for gender equality, empowering women within the union, and promoting fair and inclusive workplaces for all.
